11 signs that you're looking at a good camping locker
- High-quality material: The frames of good camping lockers are usually made of sturdy plastic, aluminium or steel. These materials are not only weather-resistant and very robust, but also score points for their light weight. If a worktop is included, it can also be made of hard-wearing bamboo or laminate, which is easy to clean. In the kitchen, things can easily spill and the camping cupboard can also take a beating. Fabrics made of synthetic fibres that can be easily wiped clean and dry quickly are practical.
- Waterproof: Is your camping locker outside? Then your cupboard should be able to protect the items inside from the rain. Waterproof materials such as polyester score highly here, as they dry quickly and remain waterproof. If a water column is specified, a value of 1500 mm indicates that your camping locker is waterproof.
- The right size: small or XL: Basically, the bigger your camping locker, the more things you can store in it. And when camping, there are quite a few. Cooking alone requires pots, pans, cutlery, plates, cups, various food items, etc. But where to put them? But where to put them? The utensils are stored in the camping cupboard and you also have them to hand for every meal and don't have to search for them or move boxes to get to the pasta. However, please also note that the size also affects the weight. If it is important to you to take a lightweight camping locker with you on holiday, you should choose a smaller one. On the other hand, a camping locker is not usually moved around much and can be a little larger or heavier. You can even find XL-sized camping cabinets here. For the kitchen, it should be low enough that you can still use a work surface above it. For storing clothes and other items, it can be a little higher so that you don't have to strain your back every time.
- Small packing size: The packing size indicates the size of the wardrobe when folded. This is important if you want to store other luggage in your car in addition to your wardrobe. So make sure you buy a wardrobe with a small packing size - this will also make car loading fun.
- Protected with a zip: Your camping locker should also be able to be closed with a zip. This protects your belongings from dirt and doesn't arouse any covetousness (from neighbours).
- Foldable: Foldable and collapsible camping lockers offer many advantages. Firstly, they are easy to set up and you don't have to follow complicated instructions. Secondly, you need less space in the car or bus because the packing size is smaller. When you get back from holiday, they don't take up much space at home either and can be stowed away to save space until the next use.
- Lots of compartments: The more compartments, the better. This allows you to organise your clothes using the KonMari method or your kitchen utensils. This not only keeps the family happy, but also makes your everyday holiday more enjoyable.
- High load capacity: How high the load capacity of your wardrobe should be depends on its intended use. Clothes alone don't weigh that much. However, if shoes or books are added, the weight increases. In the kitchen, you need an even heavier cupboard - just think of the weight of pots, pans and plates. The upper load limit for our cabinets is approx. 30 kg.
- Sturdy construction: If you want to use the cupboard in the kitchen for the heavy utensils mentioned above, not only should the load capacity limit be high. The cupboard should also be sturdily built so that the crockery or other utensils do not break at the first rough contact. Indicators of stable camping cupboards are high-quality materials, a tendency towards higher weight and frames with stable legs.
- Uncomplicated assembly: Your camping cupboard should be easy and intuitive to assemble. This works best with foldable or collapsible cabinets. Take it out of the bag, unfold it, put it down and you're done.
- Special equipment: wind protection and work surfaces: Not to be underestimated, especially in the kitchen: Work surfaces. Camping cupboards with worktops not only offer you storage space, but also space for chopping, preparing or crafting and, if necessary, eating. A windbreak is also a blessing - especially when lighting the cooker. This not only saves matches, but also nerves!
Camping lockers to set up vs. to hang up
You can placecamping lockers anywhere. But that's where they stand and, unlike their hanging counterparts, they take up space. However, they can easily carry heavier and larger items and are more stable. When buying, consider whether they will fit into your tent or bus in terms of height.
Hanging lockers are great if you don't want to have more things on the floor and want to enjoy the feeling of more space. Hanging cupboards are also good for your back. Practical: uneven floors don't play a role when setting up or placing them. The lack of rods also makes the camping locker lighter. Unfortunately, however, you are limited in the goods you can store in the cupboard. Heavy or fragile belongings live dangerously here.
